This might be a bit unfair, given it is a VERY long street. I am writing about the section of Chartres closest to Canal. At 5pm on a Wednesday, we saw prostitutes in doorways. Upon walking back to Canal Street, there were more bra-and-pantie clad prostitutes in doorways. I definitely would NOT recommend this walk for families with children and think it would pose a problem if a family was staying at the W Hotel. To venture out from the hotel it would feel like running a gauntlet of [].
My last name stemmed from the name Chartres and traced back in my family history is the person after whom the street was named. Being biased, you may not think that I have given a fair review but I did enjoy my time in the French Quarter last summer. I would reccomend a trip to the French quarter and to Chartres St.
